What can I put down, and what can I remember as true for myself.

This brings to mind a poem by James A. Pearson, I would love to share it here with you, as an offering to ponder and reflect on in your own life.

The First Promise

- James A. Pearson

Sometimes you need to hide

from everything you’ve

promised to become,

so you can find the first promise:

the one you and the soft world

sang to each other

down beneath the tall bushes

along the old stream bed,

back when nobody knew

exactly where you were,

before the person

everyone needed you to be

learned to find you even there.

That place is just a memory now

but the sanctuary still waits—

in the quiet places under trees,

the spacious darkness

of a solitary night—

and if you learn again

how to hide, even from

the expectations you’ve

mistaken for your own,

you’ll find the world still knows

your secret harmony,

and some brave and

brokenhearted voice in you

never stopped singing.

Take some time with this if you’re able. Thank you to James Pearson for this gift. This poem travels deep for me.

Last week we also gathered for our monthly community restorative class, where I shared this poem. I teach this class through zoom, and have been offering this space for the last few years - a chance for us to practice together, reflect on where we find ourselves in cycle, and to connect with like hearted community as we tend to our hearts whispers for self care. It was so beautiful practicing with community, thank you. Paid subscribers are welcome every month, as an offering of support and reciprocity.

In our most recent gather, we took some time to offer ourselves gentle self-massage - to our hands and/or feet, and to our diaphragm. We also did an extended guided yoga nidra practice for our final relaxation.

I would like to offer this community practice to you, as I settle in here - I invite you to settle in with me.

October Restorative Practice:

I’m sending you support for the days ahead.
